Earth Tear in 1993

The Artist-in-Residency at Sanitary Fill in South San Francisco
Earth Tear was made in 1993 during an Artist-in-Residency at Sanitary Fill Company in South San Francisco. It was an opportunity to see the degredation of the land as it was being filled by an endless train of trucks and cars leaving garbage and junk.
Sanitary Fill was and is what is known as "the dump," for much of the San Francisco Bay Area. Today, Sanitary Fill has one of the most sophisticated recycling Programs in the nation. The Artist-in Residency Program is thriving and continues to nurture artists who work with debris and who are concerned about the environment.
